Aids kills people in their prime time,pushes families into poverty and wipes out knowledge that is essential to productivities and growth.

A dangerous cycle is setting in: Aids is decreasing the opportunity for children to become educated, and less education deepens poverty, which enabling those children to acquire a range of interventions,including school feeding programmes,clothing and provision of financial incentives for parents to send their children to school.

The impact of HIV/AIDS at household level seems to be a specific challenge for women and children.There is notable increase in female and children headed households who are mostly widows and orphans.Those households generally have no constant income, which impacts on the capacity of those households to cope with HIV/AIDS and ability to buy nutritious food and medication for those suffering from HIV/AIDS.Economic hardships faced by widows prompt most of them to engaged in sex for money,putting them at risk of contracting HIV.

It has been established that more than 80% of the population infected by HIV/AIDS are aged between 20-49 years which is a manifestation of the danger poses to the active population. Finally, the papulation conprises of orphans and the elderly.Due to the large number of AIDS orphans and the poverty levels , the traditional mechanism of intergrating orphans in to the extended families is overwhelmed and thus is unable to cope with the demands such as provision of adequate needs like education, health, clothing and nutrition.
